e-Platform of logistics industry
A "fourth-party logistics
platform" or "e-Platform" is proposed by the Center, initially targeted
for the Hong Kong air cargo logistics community. The proposed platform
provides three major features as shown below.
The e-Platform provides
three different levels of platform activities. The Management Platform
is the e-business management platform where e-business among parties
in a logistics chain is managed online. This e-business activity could
be simply a continuation of an accomplished activity in the Collaboration
Platform where a logistics chain is formed. To fully support the activities
on these two platforms, a third platform is needed to facilitate information
exchange. This e-platform as a whole is a critical step towards providing
an interactive, interoperable and integrative Web-based community
network for the industry. Such a community network - conceptualized
in a paper published by the project team (2000) - enables e-business
processes (e-supply chain management, e-procurement, etc.) to be performed
at the industry level and will solidify Hong Kong as a major air cargo
hub in the region.
The
Center of Cyber Logistics (or Cyber Logistics Research Center),
is a research center under Li & Fung Institute of Supply Chain
Management & Logistics, The
Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Center was first established
in early 2000 affiliated with the Department
of Decision Sciences & Managerial Economics (DSE), Faculty
of Business Administration, The
Chinese University of Hong Kong and Department
of Management Sciences, Faculty
of Business, The City University
